Welcome to the Wacky World of Mac!
A little about me...
I am originally from Utah, but I have lived in eight different states, and I had attended 15 different schools before I landed at Point Loma High my sophomore year. After graduating from High School, I graduated from Berkeley and left to go work at IBM. It wasn't very long before I realized that I really wasn't cut out for the corporate world - so not my style. I returned to San Diego and went back to school to gain my teaching credential. I decided on teaching because I love to create, design, tinker, learn, read, and I love history.
I have been teaching at OPE for the last nineteen years-this will be my 20th year. I started in room 208, and I am still here. For many years, I was the combination teacher at OPE - I started off with a 3/4 combination class and taught either 3/4 combos or fourth grade for years. In fact, I originated our fabulous Gold Rush Days - (if you look closely at the town, you will see where a parent inserted my name!) Eventually I was moved to a 4/5 combination class then to regular fifth grade. I think you may start to see a trend here. Yep, a few years later I took on the 5/6 combination class, and I FELL IN LOVE with sixth grade. So, here I am in sixth grade!
As I stated earlier, I am a creator. I love to sew, garden, cook, design, build, repurpose, and collect. I am so very excited to be part of our new Makerspace Studio where I will get to impart all of my expertise in these areas. Additionally, I am a total wannabe actress! I love to be on stage. This additional love transfers to my students in that they will be a part of the DMac production this year. For the past nine years, one of my partners has been Mr. Dickinson, and we have put on a fabulous musical each year. We have done Seussical, Aladdin, The Music Man, Oklahoma, Beauty and the Beast, and last year we did Aladdin. Each year the play is a surprise so...stay tuned for more info!
This year we are adding one more component to our sixth grade "awesomeness." For the 2018 class, we are going to re-launch our O.P.Entrepreneurs! Sixth graders will be creating an ice cream business to raise money for our end-of-the-year activities. We will be looking for parent investors to help us launch our business- and we plan to repay all loans at a small percent once the kids do the math to figure out what will be profitable. One more event to stay tuned for!
This is just a little bit about me...
